Newcastle United have embarked on their first European campaign for a number of years and Alan Pardew will be hoping that the Magpies can enjoy a long and successful journey in the Europa League.

Newcastle’s Europa League campaign started off with something of a damp squib, as the Magpies opened up with a goalless draw in Portugal against Maritimo.

Their next match seems them place Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux at St James’ Park and a victory is needed against the French side to get the Magpies up and running.

Following Newcastle’s exit at the hands of Manchester United in the Capital One Cup, Pardew’s men now have one less front to fight on and can put more effort and concentration into their European adventure.

While this season represents Newcastle’s first campaign in the UEFA Europa League, it is also the first season in which Western Union are the competition’s global partner.

To celebrate, Western Union have committed to turn every successful pass in this season’s competition into funding to provide one day’s education for young people around the world.

Called PASS, the initiative is fronted by former international football Arsenal star and World Cup Winner, Patrick Vieira and the scheme kicked off this month with the group stage matches already delivering over 20,000 passes – equating to 20,000 days of schooling.

The initiative aims to reach one million days of school over the next three seasons and builds on the work that Western Union has already done to support education globally.
