Newcastle United’s Premier League match with Aston Villa at St James’ Park this afternoon might have ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw, but before the match the players showed while they’ll be successful this season – they have a great team spirit.

On Thursday night, while Newcastle might have made it through to the groups stages of the Europa League, utility man Ryan Taylor was cruelly ruled out of action for many months with yet another cruciate ligament knee injury.

28-year-old Taylor hasn’t had any luck with injuries throughout his career as he has suffered similar blows over the past decade, leaving Ryan with the feeling: ‘Why always me?’

However, Taylor has promised to come back fitter and stronger than ever, and if today is anything to go by then he can definitely count on his Newcastle teammates for support.

Ahead of the match against Villa today Newcastle’s players walked out with ‘Ryan Taylor Over The Wall’ on the back of their tracksuits, which is one of the Toon Army’s favourite chants.

Taylor was clearly appreciative of the action, as he Tweeted: “Just heard about the message on the back of the lads tops for me. Thats why i love this football club and everyone involved. #NUFC”.

It was a great gesture by the lads and here are Vurnon Anita and co…

  • Ellis says:

Think this is rather pathetic, the lad has a rather run of the mill, football injury.

Villa have a captain who is in remission from leukaemia.

    How about abit of perspective.

    • Double Carpet says:

True, Ryan’s career-threatening injury is not comparable to Petrov’s life-threatening condition.

But the only one comparing is you. It’s not a competition, and simply because Taylor is not suffering the way Petrov is does not make Newcastle’s players sentiments any less worthwhile.

      Don’t be so bleedn miserable.

  • Colin says:

@Ellis – pathetic to show support for a team-mate ? how on earth can you reason that ?

  • Ellis says:

Career threatening/Life Threatening. Like you say it’s not a competition.

Im sorry but I just found it so cringeworthy, maudlin to the extent of Liverpool FC. Unwelcome distraction before the game.

Its a heartless comment though at the end of the day it’s a great passion for us and equally great for them, when they get injured we all lose out and I feel sorry for anyone who can’t respect a team supporting each other through the rough!

  • A says:

Fair enough, they can wear what they like and show their support but was sad to see today that Newcastle fans made no effort whatsoever in join in the 19th minute applause for Petrov, a true pro and by all accounts a genuinely nice bloke.
