Demba Ba v SpursLiverpool are being encouraged to make a £7.5 million January move for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba by various members of the football media.

Demba Ba may have been in good form in the 2012/13 Premier League season, but it’s clear that the Senegal striker is not completely happy at Newcastle.

Goals against Tottenham, Everton and most recently Norwich have seen Ba move to second in the Premier League top scorers list, one of the market you can bet on football with bet365, behind Manchester United’s new signing Robin van Persie.

However, Ba and his agent have indicated that all is not well in the north-east, as Demba wasn’t happy about being left on the bench at Goodison Park last week and his agent was quick to state that his client would seek pastures new if he wasn’t given a starting berth week in, week out.

As for Liverpool, the Reds have had a disastrous start to the season and following defeat against Man United at Anfield yesterday, are still yet to register a win in the league.

The Reds have only netted four times in five Premier League matches to date and without Andy Carroll, with the former Newcastle striker on loan at West Ham, are relying on the misfiring Luis Suarez to find the back of the net.

One of Liverpool’s former players and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson believes that a January move for Demba Ba would help give the Reds more of an attacking threat.

He told the Mirror: “Demba Ba at Newcastle will be one that Liverpool have a look at in January. Alan Pardew has made public the fact that he has that £7.5million release clause”, and while Brendan Rodgers might not have the biggest transfer kitty, it should stretch to that.

Former Magpie Micky Quinn further told the bet365 site that “I think [Ba] will go for more than £7million and I reckon he would be a very tasty player for Liverpool.”

However, would Ba really want to go to Liverpool, as although the Reds are a club with a great history, they’re currently languishing near the bottom of the table and are only at the beginning of a long rebuilding process.

  • Andrew says:

Why would he want to go to that sinking ship?

  • David says:

Sinking ship. Did you see the youth players v man united.

I don’t normally respond to these posts. But I’d like to say its good to see a Man U fan not trying to put boot in and recognise that Liverpool are not as bad as everyone thinks. I can’t wait till Liverpool can finally start challenging united as its the best rivals in the world

I am a Reds fan from abroad and can finally say we are actually playing football! I know the results haven’t been there just yet but the way we are playing is positive! We best Man U 4:1 at Old Trafford seasons ago and didn’t out play them as we did on Sunday!
As the season wears on I believe results will come!

Although we Liverpool fans would take him, I doubt Rodgers would. He wants very specific types of player (which has its positives and negatives).

Im a LFC supporter and also like to keep a close eye on Newcastle, as my second team but I must admit Demba ba, would be a great signing for LFC, but again would he want too come to us ? Id love to see him at Anfield, but would Brenden Rodgers? he would be a fantastic asset.

  • Satyavir says:

Frankly speaking BR’s style does not require a out n out striker. we just need people with confidence as we all can see we have started showing more control in the game and r pushing a lot more up to oppositions post. with short distance anybody can score. we just require the players confidence back.

    This blog is outdated…

Ba has stated in an interview posted on the NUFC website yesterday that he was happy and that he wants to continue doing what he does best which is scoring goals. The facts in this blog are based on Ba having a moan at starting from the bench against Everton, but has since had the following to say…

“Yes, I’m happy.” “I feel good, I’ve had some good games and I’ll just keep on doing what I’m doing.” “I think I’m in better form than last season so I’ll just continue to do what I do.”

“Yohan Cabaye last Monday, the ball he gave me, and Hatem Ben Arfa on Sunday – when you have balls like this it’s easier to score some goals.”

“It hasn’t been too bad,” Ba said. “We’re on the road to what we did last season and we just want to keep doing what we do best and get as many wins as possible, especially at home.”

“Sunday was important because our start was not too good but not too bad. Our start was average and we needed a win to make a good step forward.”

“And we have that win. It was not easy but we have it and we’re very happy that we have three points. That’s always the main thing in this sport.” “I think so and I hope so.”

“Only God knows when Cisse will score, but he just has to keep on fighting and keep on doing what he has to do. Everything else is in the hands of God.”

Sign him, isco, and a young keeper as reina is quite bad now. Need some goals, so Ba is the man for the Reds.
