Demba Ba’s bout of amnesia has come to an end as the Newcastle United striker suddenly remembered what it’s like to score a goal as he netted in Newcastle’s 1-0 pre-season victory against Monaco.
Newcastle striker Demba Ba suffered a terrible goal drought during the second half of the 2011/12 Premier League season. While in the first half of the season he banged in the goals, after netting against Aston Villa he couldn’t score for love nor money.
Some people put this down to his spell at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, as the goal he scored against Villa at St James’ Park was the only time he netted on his return to Tyneside, but the ACN didn’t seem to affect countryman Papiss Cisse’s form!

27-year-old Ba however seems to have put the troubles of the last couple of months of the season behind him and started afresh ahead of this season, having found the back of the net in his first start of the pre-season campaign.
It wasn’t a classic goal by any means, but they all count, as Danny Simpson’s diagonal ball was first headed on by Mike Williamson and then Shola Ameobi, before Ba rose high above the Monaco goalkeeper to head home.
Ba himself was clearly relived to end his goal scoring drought as he Tweeted: “Thanks for the messages. Feels good to be back on the score sheet. Even for a friendly ;))”
While it was only a friendly and it was a scrappy goal, just rediscovering what it feels like to find the back of the net again after seemingly forgetting how to do just that for many weeks should stand Demba Ba in good stead for next season.
