Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has become the club’s new number one as the Dutchman has changed his Newcastle squad number ahead of the 2012/13 Premier League season.
Tim Krul was one of Newcastle’s best performers last season, as the 24-year old goalkeeper really came of age in between the sticks.
The 6ft 4in stopper played all 38 of Newcastle’s Premier League matches last season and made fantastic save after fantastic save, week-in, week-out, helping himself to more than a dozen clean sheets.

Backup goalkeepers Steve Harper and Robbie Elliot were not given a look in and that has been reflected in this season’s squad numbers.
Formerly wearing number 26, Tim Krul has been given Newcastle’s number one jersey, with Harper switching from one to 37.
This was confirmed by the young Dutchman on his Twitter account as Krul earlier Tweeted: “For the fans who have been asking about my squad number it’s right I have changed my number from 26 to number 1 for the new season..#nufc”
If Krul’s form of last season is anything to go by then he will be Newcastle’s number one for many years to come, and despite not getting a chance of first team action at Euro 2012, you’d have thought he can’t be too far off being The Netherlands’ preferred ‘keeper either.
Links of a move to Tottenham Hotspur refuse to go away, but with Krul contracted to Newcastle for another half a decade, expect Tim to add many more caps to his 76 Newcastle appearances in all competitions to date.
