Danny Simpson and Danny GuthrieDanny Guthrie signed for Premier League new boys Reading recently and if the latest Newcastle transfer news is to be believed then Danny Simpson could be joining him at the Madejski Stadium in the coming weeks.

25-year-old Guthrie found opportunities limited at St James’ Park, a situation that Simpson may find himself in next season if Mathieu Debuchy arrives on Tyneside, and left Newcastle United after four years at the club.

Danny Guthrie’s contract was allowed to run down by Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, but with Danny Simpson’s deal having 12 months to run, the Magpies may be looking to ship him out for a fee of around £2 million.

Reading would appear to be willing recipients of Simpson and in Guthrie they have at least one member of their squad who would be happy to see him arrive in Berkshire sooner rather than later.

Guthrie told Get Reading in regards to Simpson: “If I was asked by the manager here for my thoughts then I would tell him how good a footballer he is and how he always gives his best for the team.”

Guthrie himself has just joined Twitter, a move that drew an immediate reaction from Simpson who himself Tweeted: “Everyone follow Danny Guthrie he’s now got a Twitter page aswel.. Let’s see if he has any banter @dannyguthrie20 RT.”

If Simpson follows his own advice literally, rather than just on Twitter, then he could be following Guthrie from Newcastle to Reading before the 2012/13 Premier League season kicks off next month.

As soon as a deal for Debuchy is done, Newcastle are unlikely to stand in his way and as a result there could be a couple of familiar faces around when the Magpies visit the Madejski on Saturday 29th September.
