Newcastle duo Danny Simpson and Leon BestDanny Simpson’s Newcastle United career is hanging in the balance. There’s no way around that. Come the end of the summer he might no longer be a Newcastle player. But if he does still want to have a career with the Magpies then there’s one thing he needs to do – fight for it!

We all know about Simpson’s contract dispute and Danny has defended his part in it, but as if he says he really is desperate to stay, then surely some things are more important than money. After all, how much are the likes of QPR or Fulham going to pay him?

Simpson has previously told the Sunday Mirror that: “I’m not a greedy player and I just want to be on par with the other players around me. In football terms, what I’m asking for is by no means outrageous. Hopefully me and the club can find some solution.”

The greedy tag seems to hurt Simpson, as Danny further stated: “Over the last two years I’ve played nearly 80 games and started most of them. I’m not being greedy, this club is on the up, the manager and staff are brilliant – I want to stay.”

When push comes to shove though, Danny Simpson has a simple decision to make. Does he rate money or career progression more highly? If it’s the latter then he should fight for his Newcastle future.

Simpson has recently returned to Twitter after a two-month break and has been posting pictures from his time in Los Angeles, where he’s enjoying a summer holiday. Here he is with British boxer Amir Khan…

Khan has had to fight in the ring for everything he’s got, so maybe Simpson should take a leaf out of Amir’s book and fight for his Newcastle United future.

Simpson is on a slippery slope.
As one of our least consistent players his position is up top of Pardew’s shopping list. We dont even need to buy a replacement. We just move Santon.
Danny, suggest you accept the current deal, put in an impressive season and then try again.

Have to say the Amir Khan link was a bit tenuous to say the least.
Of course Khan has had to fight in the ring for everything he has got. THAT’S WHAT BOXERS DO!

If Simpson was to follow Khan’s example he would need to be a rising star with a huge future, develop a big head, sack his coaching staff, replace them with his own relatives, see a serious slump in his form, not fulfil his potential then blame someone in the crowd when he plays badly?

Yeah – that sounds like the path to take.
