Being a footballer is seen as one of the most glamorous jobs on the Earth. Footballers get the money, the cars and the girls, but Newcastle United and Holland goalkeeper Tim Krul has shown that the life of a footballer isn’t always that glamorous.
Tim Krul is in The Netherlands right now, as his country plays their final friendly against Northern Ireland before jetting off to Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012. As it happens Krul was sat on the bench as Holland trounced Northern Ireland 6-0 in Amsterdam, something he might be doing a lot over the next few weeks.
Dutchmen Krul and Michel Vorm, Swansea City’s number one, might be two of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but Roma ‘keeper Maarten Stekelenburg will be the man in between the sticks for The Netherlands in the European Championships.
That means Krul will have to be content with fulfilling his commitments off the pitch for Holland, as his playing time will be at a premium. One of those less glamorous commitments is signing merchandise for sponsors.
Earlier today Krul posted on Twitter: “In Amsterdam for our last friendly Vs. Northern Ireland. Just signed a few shirts and balls for the sponsors” and uploaded this picture…
I guess it’s the most fun of tasks, but someone’s got to do it!
