Newcastle target Luc CastaignosNewcastle United have joined West Ham, Liverpool and Everton in the race for Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos according to the Sun.

Newcastle are on the lookout for a new striker and the 19-year-old Dutchman has caught the attention of the Magpies alongside a number of Premier League clubs.

Inter Milan signed Castaignos for 3 million Euros last summer, but the youngster only featured for Inter eight times last season, scoring once in Serie A against Siena.

The 6ft 2in tall striker’s record in youth football for Holland is pretty impressive, with Castaignos scoring 22 times for the Netherlands’ U17 and U19 sides.

You would have thought Alan Carr and his team of scouts would have been watching Luc before he made the move to Italian football, but maybe they feel they missed out and won’t want to suffer the same fate again.

A fee in the region of £4.5m is being mentioned, although the Daily Mail claims that West Ham, another of the interested sides, will have to fork out £6m for the 19-year-old, with Liverpool and Everton also sniffing around.

Newcastle did manage to secure the signing of one Inter Milan player last season, as Davide Santon made the move to Tyneside, but will they swoop on the Serie A club again?

Here’s a video of Luc Castaignos in action, which is titled ‘The New Henry of Inter’. So not much is expected of the 19-year-old, then…

I’m not sure the comparisons to the former Arsenal striker are deserved just yet.
