Newcastle transfer target Aly CissokhoAly Cissokho has been a long term transfer target of Newcastle United, but the Journal is reporting that not everyone at the club is convinced by his ability.

Newcastle’s scouting team, led by Graham Carr, have been keen admirers of Cissokho for a number of months, but according to the Journal, Alan Pardew and his staff have not been won over by the French left back.

Of Senegalese descent, 24-year-old Cissokho joined Lyon back in 2009 and has been courting a move to the Premier League recently.

Standing at 5ft 11in, Cissokho has plenty of presence at the back and is renowned for striding forward down the left flank.

Valued at around £6 million, that would represent a decent bit of business for Newcastle considering that Lyon paid Porto 15m Euros for his services three years ago.

Cissokho will understandably be drawn to the French revolution that is gathering speed at St James’ Park and only has to look at Laurent Blanc’s France squad at Euro 2012 to see how it could a move could further his international career.

So why might Pardew not be so keen? Cissokho’s potential spine problems are one negative, as are a questionable attitude, but it could simply be that Pardew prefers other options on the left hand side of defence, such as Dutchman Erik Pieters.

Do you take the side of Alan Pardew and his staff or Graham Carr and his scouting network in this instance? Would you like to See Aly Cissokho at Newcastle next season?

I’d prefer Pieters too, we have too many players who’d get dragged into the ACoN next Jan as it is & Pieters is more versatile as he can cover for CB as well as playing that LB role…

Cissokho is a french, ACon wont affect his availability

Pardew signed obertan… No brainer for me, in gcarr we trust!

The only thing with Pieters is he’s been out twice with foot injuries so is this going to be a regular thing

Pieters to me looks like an injury prone and slow player. I prefer Cissokho because he is more of a threat going forward and is quicker.

I havn’t seen peiters play because he’s always been injured when I go to watch PSV so I can’t compare the 2 but I have seen cissohko.
He has loads of pace but he seems dumb as a sack of rocks. I don’t think he’ll be able to mentally deal with the pace of the prem and 6 mil is far too much risk. I think it’s probably the money that certain people at the club are balking at. If it was 2 or 3 mil maybe you’d see that as worth it. But at 6 mil you have to be certain that he will be good enough to be an everyday starter I there are serious doubts that he could be that.

I agree I think it’s more about the attitude of the player. Rather than his ability. They are working hard to keep team morale.

If Pards has reservations about him, dont buy him. Cissohkos potential isnt exactly a secret and Carr is right to flag him up, but if Pardew doesnt see him as a player to fit into his squad then look elsewhere.

Suprised we havent been back in for M’Bengue.
