England shirtNewcastle United might have two players in the France squad in Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa, but when Euro 2012 starts next Friday my allegiance will definitely be with Roy Hodgson’s England.

This is the first tournament for a while where there is little-to-no expectation for England to do well, and with no Newcastle players in the England squad, you wouldn’t accuse Newcastle fans for showing a lack of interest in the fortunes of the Three Lions.

However, former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is likely to line-up as England’s number nine in the absence of Wayne Rooney for the first two matches, and patriotism will come to the fore when Roy Hodgson’s men take on France on Monday 11th June.

There is always the feeling of what if as well. What if Roy Hodgson’s England click? What if they can make it out of the group stages? This is what former Arsenal striker Ian Wright is thinking…

While the BBC and ITV have the screening rights for Euro 2012 in the UK, Absolute Radio will be broadcasting live commentary of ten matches, including England and the Republic of Ireland’s group games and knock out matches if they make it further into the tournament.

Ian Wright will also be providing analysis on the action in Poland and Ukraine in his daily show at 5pm, which is available on 105.8FM in London and the South East as well as 1215AM nationwide, on digital radio, online, mobile and digital TV ensuring that fans don’t miss a minute of the action.
