Newcastle and Everton weigh up Bayer Bargain

Newcastle transfer target Tranquillo BarnettaNewcastle United will be lining up some bargains this summer and they may just find one in Bayer Leverkusen winger Tranquillo Barnetta, but they’ll have to beat fellow Premier League team Everton to the signature of the Swiss international.

It is not often that players of Barnetta’s ability become available on a free transfer, but the 27-year-old Switzerland midfielder is free to leave Leverkusen on a bosman deal at the end of June after he turned down Bayer’s offer of a new contract.

Barnetta spent eight years in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen and played over 200 times in German domestic football. Add to that over 50 caps for Switzerland and you have a player with real pedigree in European football.

The one thing that may put off Newcastle and indeed Everton is the fact that Barnetta suffered a serious knee injury not too long ago. However, if his hat-trick of assists for Switzerland against Germany is anything to go by, then he’s back to full fitness…

Some fabulous crosses there from Barnetta, helping Eren Derdiyok to an international hat-trick and giving the sort of service that both Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic would love.

I’m sure either club would be able to meet Barnetta’s £35,000-a-week wage demands, especially seeing as he’s available on a free transfer, and he would prove to be a real bargain for Newcastle or Everton.

Sign the lad up for Newcastle – quality player, provides just the service our forwards need and are currently lacking to an extent

Jonas’ work-rate is outstanding, but his final ball isn’t consistently good enough.

Obertan will continue to develop – he’s still a young lad – but he too often lacks a good final ball.

Having another creative outlet like him to supplement Ben Arfa will make us harder to stifle and more able to challenge the top 6 next season, especially with the extra fixture load of the Europa League.

I agree – with no transfer fee, his wages should be manageable for us, more so as Smith and Lovrekands are leaving freeing up space on the wage bill and we’ll also have some extra revenue from European competition.

In my opinion hes worth a punt although at 27, I can’t see us offering him a long deal which he will be looking for no doubt. Add to that a poor recent injury record and it becomes evident that the club might avoid him.
It’s all quiet on the transfer front. I feel a storm coming

  • Wonderful. Thank you for taking the time. I’ll definitely return to your site to read more and inform my coworkers about this
