Newcastle duo Danny Simpson and Leon BestSpecial offers are usually reserved for the supermarket, but Aston Villa might just be able to buy two Newcastle United players this summer and get one free as Villa manager Alex McLeish lines up a triple swoop from the Magpies.

Alan Pardew’s Newcastle are heading into Europe next season, but there’s still plenty of players that he’s looking to offload from his squad. Three of those men could be Danny Simpson, Leon Best and Danny Guthrie, with Aston Villa reported to be interested in all three.

According to the Sun, Newcastle have offered Simpson as much money as they are prepared to and as the right back has turned down their offer of a new deal, the Magpies will look to get rid of the former Manchester United trainee at the end of the season. The Journal even understands that Simpson has recently changed agents in order to force a move if necessary.

As for Leon Best, the Irishman has fallen a long way down the pecking order. Senegalese duo Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are Pardew’s preferred front two, then there’s Geordie hero Shola Ameobi as backup and with another striker likely to be brought in before the new season, Best’s opportunities on Tyneside will be limited.

Aston Villa have also been long term admirers of Danny Guthrie, and with the Newcastle midfielder’s contract ending in the summer, McLeish will be looking to add to his worryingly thing squad without having to get the chequebook out.

So, Aston Villa could well end up securing a triple swoop from Newcastle as they buy Danny Simpson and Leon Best, and get Danny Guthrie free. The Magpies would also get some more cash from sales of fringe players to strengthen their squad, which is never a bad thing.

Doubt it, I bet McLeish won’t even be there manager next week by the sounds.

We don’t want these newcastle rejects, none of these will set the world on fire.
AM just go. Please dont let him any where near the purse strings.

  • Andrew says:

AM won’t be around to get such poor players.

    Rejects and poor players?
Simpson has been an ever present (apart from the last two games) in a team chasing the Champions League entry and with around 16 clean sheets this season.
He’s also, just recently, been voted No. 1 right back in the Premier League stats.
Looking at Villa’s league placing this season maybe they could have done with such a ‘reject’?
Methinks a little dose of realism wouldn’t come amiss.
As for those sad Villa fans delighting in our relegation a couple of years ago and displaying a banner asking who our next Messiah was – Ant or Dec? – maybe it was Pardew, seeing as he’s just been won the Manager of the Year award.

Spot on! enjoy life at the bottom of the pile relegation next year and i pray the fixture list has u at SJP last game. your fans were a disgrace when we went down, no rivalry between the two clubs but the banners etc..??..give AM a contract for life!

It is embarrassing being a Villa fan with fans like ours. All three of those players would make a significant difference to our squad, and our first team. Guthrie is a really promising player who has found himself stuck behind Cabaye and Tiote, he is better then anything we have at present. Simpson has played a considerable number of games this season and has impressed, and Best would be a very useful addition for us, as we lack quality up front other than Darren Bent. Please do not assume all Villa fans are ignorant arseholes, I promise that the majority are grounded people who recognise very clearly how far we have fallen in just two years.

  • Royston says:

I’d take Simpson at Villa any day of the week, we’d probably pay him stupid wages like we usually do :S.

As for Leon Best, no thanks.

With respect to the Villa fans, these 3 lads are head and shoulders better than what you have now. I’d prefer they stay at Newcastle but can understand Guthrie and Best wanting first team football.
Think alot of Villa fans live in the past and are a little bit deluded. AM isn’t a bad manager hes just adopted a squad of young players but add these 3 to your team and you won’t be worrying about relegation next season

  • Badgertoon says:

Don’t really want to loose Guthrie or SImson.Former a necessary squad player for next seasons European adventure and Simpson has had an excellent season. Both far too good for bottom half team Villa!

  • Villa07 says:

Villa fan in peace. All are good players. Every time ive saw simpson he looks reliable, always seems to get a few off the line as well. Guthrie has the passing ability Villa crave and I would love him in our team. Best seemed to do well earlier in the season, I remember I saw a goal in which his foot movement was world class. Simpson and Guthrie would walk into the team and Best could be a good purchase.

The only reason Villa fans was cheering at your relegation was because of your away support was jeering Martin Laursen while saying goodbye to us after retiring through injury. We have nothing against your club but from the Holte End we couldn’t hear a word, it was a lack of respect. Martin was a club hero and we would of just liked to hear his goodbye.

I like watching Newcastle play and glad you are challenging for fourth, you play good football and I enjoy watching you. Good luck in future.

  • Ash-out says:

Villa 07. They must have made that sign pretty quickly as you were waiting to hear Laursen’s speech!!!

  • Villa07 says:

Every club have a few fans that do silly things or chant things to the opposition it’s what happens. I was just on about the villa fans on a whole, shouldn’t taint 40,000 Villa fans with the same brush. I only knew of the banner afterwards and just thought it was a bit of banter but could see why Newcastle fans would be upset by it. I would of personally been more upset with Shearer, when he waved to the Villa fans when we chanted give us a wave in the last few minutes of the match. Shearer is a legend but I wouldn’t of been happy if say Paul McGrath was in the same position waving to the opposition while we were on the brink of going down. Houllier was criticised for waving to Liverpool fans after our 3-0 defeat last yr, I feel it’s of the same bracket.
