Newcastle United striker Demba Ba is doing all he can to re-find his form from earlier in the season and has gone the extra mile to ensure that he’s in tip-top shape. Ba hasn’t found the net since he scored against Aston Villa at St James’ Park back at the beginning of February, but he’s still in good spirits and has undergone a treatment of cryotherapy to try and get himself to peak fitness.
What is cryotherapy I hear you ask? Well, it simply comes from the Greek for cold and cure, so is a cold cure, not to be confused with a cure for a cold, that’s something completely different! It involves the use of very low temperatures, taking heat out of the body in an attempt to decrease inflammation. In some ways it’s just a really extreme ice bath!

Ba had this done yesterday and he let his Twitter followers know all about it. After asking if anyone was aware of cryotherapy he later Tweeted: “I’ve been locked in a room -110 degrees for 3 min. Nearly naked. I never felt so cold. But now I feel refresh and ready for the last 5 games”. That doesn’t particularly sound like fun and Ba even later admitted that he must be mad.
I suggested in an earlier article that he eat some of the Yassa that Papiss Cisse has been wolfing down, but if cryotherapy works for Ba then I’m all for it. Hopefully Demba will be able to find the back of the net in the last five Premier League games of the season and his Newcastle manager Alan Pardew still has plenty of faith in the Senegal striker.
Pardew told Sky Sports: “He is in great form, there’s no lack of confidence. His goal will come and then this will all be forgotten.” Pards also revealed that despite missing from the spot against Sunderland, Ba not Cisse is still on penalties. That should give Demba plenty of confidence and with some luck exposing himself to the extreme cold will put him on a hot run of form!
