Haris Vuckic has extended his loan deal at Cardiff City until the end of the season and will be given the opportunity to lead the Bluebirds into the Premier League.

The Newcastle midfielder initially moved to Wales for a month at the beginning of February going on to score once in four appearances for the Championship side. However with the clock ticking down towards the end of his temporary stay boss Malky Mackay has moved to ensure the 19-year-old remains with the club until the season’s climax.

Magpies chief Alan Pardew has agreed to let the highly rated 19-year-old midfielder remain at the Cardiff City Stadium and the extension will be confirmed after their away game with Bristol City on Saturday. He’s become a key figure for the promotion hopefuls during the last month and will play a vital role in their quest to reach the top flight for the first time.

It certainly presents a significant coup for Cardiff considering Vuckic, who won his first Slovenia cap at the end of February, was being chased by leading European sides like AC Milan and Manchester United during the early stages of his career.

Regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents he started his career at NK Domžale making his debut as a 16-year-old in 2008 before moving to St James’ Park a year later for an undisclosed fee. His elevation into the Newcastle first team has been rapid although injuries have limited him to only a handful of appearances during the last two seasons.

However he did finally make the breakthrough into the starting eleven in the current campaign making playing five times for the Magpies before his switch to Cardiff.
