Earlier this season we revealed that Danny Simpson was Newcastle United’s quickest player during one of the Magpies’ Premier League matches, now we have also found out who has Newcastle’s fastest shot. A speed gun was set up in an indoor hall at Newcastle’s Benton base and Assistant Manager John Carver and nine of Newcastle United’s first team squad had a go at kicking the ball into the goal as hard as they could, but there could only be one winner.

The likes of January signing Papiss Cisse, Ryan Taylor, Danny Guthrie, Dan Gosling, goalkeeping duo Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, and of course Carver were all beaten than none other than James Perch. The Newcastle utility man recorded the fastest shot in the competition at the club’s training ground that was set up by the Newcastle United Foundation.

Perch and the rest of the Newcastle players who had a go clearly enjoyed themselves as the pictures on the official Newcastle United website show, but James probably enjoyed it that little bit more. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew might just call upon Perch and his hard shot at St James’ Park against Norwich City tomorrow, as Ryan Taylor and Danny Simpson are both struggling with injuries.

James Perch performed pretty well against Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium when he came on for Davide Santon at half time. If he is called upon, Perch should slot seamlessly into a side that has great team spirit, despite currently being on a winless run of four matches. That team spirit was definitely in evidence at this fastest shot event.

Perch himself has spoken about it as well, saying: “Everybody can see our spirit. The thing is with this dressing room we want to fight for each other. We are as one, there are no individuals here. It is just 100% team spirit, that is what has got us in this position.” Hopefully that team spirit can help Newcastle get the three points they need and a change in momentum.

James Perch has the accolade of having the hardest shot at Newcastle United right now, but I would fancy that Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa would fancy beating him if the speed gun comes to Newcastle again in the near future.
