The ONE thing Newcastle fans will want from the next England manager

So, Fabio Capello left his post as England manager on Wednesday as the Italian was angry that the FA undermined him by taking the captain’s armband off Chelsea defender John Terry. This has no direct effect on Newcastle United in the short term, as Newcastle manager Alan Pardew ruled himself out of the running for the England job, just in case he needed to. However, in the long term it could have a positive impact for Newcastle’s players.

It was no secret that Capello hardly went to watch Newcastle United play at St James’ Park at all. The Italian seemed to think that the north-east was in a different country and only ever sent his assistant Franco Baldini to watch the Toon. This was pretty disrespectful to Newcastle’s players and the next England manager, most likely to be current Tottenham Hotspur gaffer Harry Redknapp, surely cannot continue that sort of behaviour.

This is something that Newcastle’s players have picked up on. Newcastle right back Danny Simpson Tweeted: “Maybe the new England manager whoever it is will travel to the North East n watch a game up here”. Simpson himself may not be in line for a call-up, what with Kyle Walker, Micah Richards and Glen Johnson all likely to be ahead of the 25-year-old in the pecking order, but Newcastle is home to some great English talent.

Unfortunately, the Newcastle player with the best chance of making future England squads is on the treatment table right now. Steven Taylor was in fantastic form for the first dozen games of the season and I would have challenged you to find a centre back playing better than Saylor anywhere in the country. Then there’s Ryan Taylor, who has as good a delivery as anyone, and Danny Guthrie has been putting in some great performances of late.

While I’m not saying that any of the above should walk straight into the England squad, they at least deserve to be watched by the Three Lions manager in person. Yes, Newcastle’s success this season may have been based around a Dutch goalkeeper, an Argentinian defender, a French midfielder and a Sengalese striker, but that doesn’t mean that their squad doesn’t contain some half decent English players, too.

Too true, would love to see some black n’ white in the England squad. Might make more people from the north-east interested, cus at the mo, I really don’t care about the England team. Maybe I’ve been exposed to too much Scottish culture.
