The downside to Newcastle United’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa seemed to be the injuries to Ryan Taylor and Leon Best. The bad news is that Best is likely to be out for 6-8 weeks due to an injury to his left knee. However, Taylor’s injury looked even more serious as he was stretchered from the field taking oxygen after a clash with Stephen Warnock in providing the assist for Demba Ba’s goal. But the good news is that Ryan Taylor’s relatively fine.

There was an official statement on nufc.co.uk today that stated: “Fortunately, Ryan Taylor did not sustain a fracture to his lower right leg which was X-rayed on Sunday afternoon. His injury is limited to soft tissue damage for which he is now receiving treatment from the Club’s medical team.” That news has been backed up by Taylor himself, who has just joined Twitter and posted the below picture of his right leg…

Taylor said: “Taking 1 for the team. Nice lump on the side of my leg”. This is a big relief for both Taylor and the Newcastle fans. Ryan has been a big player for Newcastle this season, starting off brilliantly at left back and more recently playing in the midfield, both in the centre of the park and on the right side. Thankfully he hasn’t broken his leg for the third time, Tweeting Rob Elliot: “@the_dilsh Yeah very good mate, just glad I haven’t broke my leg for the 3rd time. Yes that is a 3. Ha”.

So although Ryan is in pain, illustrated by his Tweet last night: “Can’t sleep, legs throbbing”, he should be back fairly soon and he got a positive response to another of his Tweets: “Hopefully the doc gives me some good”. While he spent today at home, Raylor should be back on the training pitch soon and once more pulling on the famous black and white shirt to assist in Newcastle’s assault on the top four of the Premier League.
