The good, the bad and the unthinkable for Newcastle

So, there are just a little over 24 hours left in the transfer window and it could still go one of three ways for Newcastle United. If things go well, then Alan Pardew will land a centre back and it will then have been a good transfer window for the Toon. If things don’t go so well then Newcastle’s squad won’t be strengthened tomorrow and they’ll have to make do with what they’ve got for the rest of the season, which isn’t ideal. However, the third scenario isn’t worth even considering.

Somewhat worryingly, rumours are gathering pace that Liverpool will make a move for Demba Ba tomorrow and repeat their swoop for Newcastle’s top striker on transfer deadline. It’s already happened to us once last year and if it happened again tomorrow it wouldn’t be a kick in the teeth, it would be much, much worse. Pardew has already said he’s scarred by the events on January 31st 2011, but 2012 could leave a cut that will never heal.

How true these rumours are your guess is as good as mine. Sky Sports are likely just trying to build interest in their show-stopping event that is the coverage of transfer deadline day and Jim White’s day in the sun. However, having seen Kenny Dalglish strip Newcastle of our assets before, I wouldn’t put anything past the Liverpool manager. I would hope that Pardew will stand up for his team this time and not let lightning strike twice.

The one advantage for Newcastle is that they’ve had a striker in the bag for a while in Papiss Cisse, so whatever happens tomorrow, at least the Magpies won’t be totally in the proverbial. What do you think? Will tomorrow be a good or bad day for Newcastle, or does it not bear thinking about?
