The news Newcastle fans were dreading

If there’s one thing that Newcastle fans are dreading, other than the team continuing their slump on the pitch, it’s that they’re willing to sell star midfielder Cheik Tiote. Reportedly Newcastle United are ready to listen to offers for Tiote after it emerged that the Tyneside club have already pinpointed a replacement.

Celtic’s impressive Victor Wanyama tops their wishlist with the 20 year old already being touted as a possible Celtic legend in the making. With that in mind Newcastle United could find it difficult to prise the young defensive midfielder away from the SPL but should they sell Tiote to one of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea then they shall certainly have the funds to make a tempting offer.

Arsenal remain one side that appear interested but with their midfield already packed with the likes of Song, Wilshere and Ramsey, Wenger will most likely decide to leave it to United and Chelsea to fight it out.

Manchester United are short of midfielders albeit due to injuries but to have someone site in front of the back four is a position many claim is not yet filled. Chelsea have Essien to come back and although Mikel is not the power many thought he might be, it appears the West London club are keen to get someone in for that position.

Ramires was at first thought to be the primary man to take over in that central area however he seems to have taken a more attacking role but again, with injuries to the Brazilian, one cannot be sure whether he has what it takes to remain a constant piece in Chelsea’s jigsaw.

Newcastle United will not want to lose their steam after such a good start in the Premiership and losing Tiote in January will knock some stuffing out of them, should they be in a good position to land Wanyama then Tiote’s move looks all the more certain.

I’m not dreading the loss of Tiote – he gets booked too much, gives the ball away / gets caught in possession in dangerous areas of the pitch, doesn’t create all that much and doesn’t score many.

I can’t agree more. Gives the ball away far too offer. Every pass is a struggle for Tiote. £25m?? Yes please

Howay geordies – That’s a bit harsh on Tiote he is a ‘defensive’ midfielder after all. He’s a tank in the middle of the park I like him, he’s a strong, has great reaction to rob a ball, loved to get a foot in, has some pace and has a good shot. I would be sad to see him leave but I feel our super scout can find a suitable replacement and hopefully use the profit on maybe a defender or striker.

I do feel that we can’t keep on selling our star players for profit. The club has to draw the line somewhere and keep a solid spine in the team, we need foundations and reinforcements not replacements!

I will be gutted to see him go, but if the stories are true and the figures are at the 25/30 million Mark then you would be mad not to take it!!! He cost us less then £4,000,000!! If pardew was given say £30,000,000 to spend, I’d be sad but not heart broken!! At least he can leave with his head held high!! I’d love to see vertoghan £10m from Ajax Luuk de Jong and a cheeky bid for carroll perhaps!! Loan to buy??

  • Sraff says:

This kid is total class, although currently on a come back trail. People really do write some rubbish about him, he is as good as they come.

  • Toonmick says:

Where do I start ??? Tiote was outstanding last season , but in my mind not the same player this season , his constant 360 degree turns and playing the ball backwards really get my goat , his passing is terrible not to mention his record of yellow cards !!! Any >offers over £20 million and we should snatch their hands off

  • Tsunki says:

It is a certainty that Tiote is going. if you notice his style of play lately he is pretty cagey by his own standards- he’s protecting himself from any sale – threatening damage, hence no yellow cards for a very long time! It’s not a bad thing, though – he has done very well here and the club have cultivated a very saleable asset who does not necessarily fit in with the future pattern of the team. I would expect at least another surprise this window as well, I don’t think he’s the only leaver this January He has booked his place in nufc folklore for that goal & celebration. So long, Cheik, and thanks for all the crunching tackles.

  • Durhammag says:

There is a bit of a cult growing up around Tiote, similar to that of Jonas. Sure he is a good player, and stormed the PL last season, but I would gladly take £25M+ for the most dispossessed player in the PL this year. Particularly if we have a replacement lined up. Oh and that stat is not made up either!

Unfortunately, it seems that Tiote has bought into the Tiote Hype Machine. Pardew’s bought into it too.

Against Swansea and West Brom he was given the sole directive to BE our midfield. He doesn’t have the vision or passing ability of Cabaye (or even Guthrie – who was fantastic before injury) and was given far too much responsibility. A lot of it, it seemed, was taken by himself.

He’s a good defensive midfielder, but the best of them never had illusions of grandeur. See Makalele and Deschamps – they knew their role in the team and stuck to it. Win the ball and give it, over and over. Protect your back four, be the link between them and your Attacking players.

Tiote has lost a bit of discipline, gives the ball away far too much and does not have the ability to provide another attacking option. Whereas I’d be disappointed to see him go, £25million is silly money – we’d be better off taking it.

The question is though, is Ferguson really looking at him? The one player in our team currently that SHOULD be looked at by the top teams is Demba f*cking Ba. The man is unstoppable. He’s akin to Drogba! Anyway… ramble over.

  • Dondatta13 says:

We have already sold our soul (Changed the name of our home stadium) in order to “Keep hold of our current stars and compete with the big clubs”…

    They can feck off

  • Sharpy17 says:

Not dreading… Expecting now, his statement made this week about being flattered but he loves Newcastle suggested that there is talks ongoing. His performance against WBA would also suggest it’s effecting his game (or he missed Cabaye).
Don’t want to see him go but £25m is more than he is worth with respect to the lad.
I would only be angry if that money wasn’t used to get players in, because the last 3-4 games have shown how thin our squad is.

  • Jamie says:

he wont be hard to replace players like him are 2 to the penny

    • Tom Jones says:

Don’t think so Jamie, which is why United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all taking a very close look.
