What next for Newcastle starlet left in limbo?

At Newcastle, there is no player out of favour more than Nile Ranger right now. The 20-year-old has see the likes of Sammy Ameobi overtake him in the pecking order, especially after his fantastic strike against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup, and despite Newcastle’s inability to bring in a big name forward he’s still well out of the striking picture. A move didn’t materialise on deadline day either, so what’s next for Newcastle’s man in limbo?

The days of Nile Ranger being Newcastle’s hottest prospect seem to be long gone. Now the Magpies are looking to ship him out whichever which way they can and he was thought to be offered to Birmingham in a swap deal for Liam Ridgewell that didn’t materialise. He was holed up in a hotel waiting for the deal to go through and when it didn’t, he subsequently tweeted: “What a joke”.

This is somewhat indicative of why Ranger has fallen so badly out of favour. His attitude is incomparable to the likes of Sammy Ameobi and he just doesn’t seem to have the professionalism needed to succeed at the top level. He had problems at Southampton and they seemed to be behind him following his move to Newcastle, but he’s slipped back into his old ways and has been in trouble with the police yet again.

The problem Newcastle have is that Ranger has five years left on his contract at St James’ Park. It was also thought that a temporary move to Birmingham to reunite him with Chris Hughton might have been on the cards when the loan window opens later this week, but that doesn’t seem to be the case as Newcastle are only interested in a permanent departure according to his agent Nick Rubery. He told the Sunday Sun: “United have made it clear there will be no movement”. So where does that leave the £1.5 million rated man?

Newcastle clearly want to be rid of Ranger, but only on their terms. A loan deal with an option to buy might be the best bet, but is there any chance of him forcing himself back into the picture at St James’ Park? Currently it seems not and I cannot see that changing while Alan Pardew is at the helm, so it looks like yet more talent will be wasted and Nile Ranger only has himself to blame.
