Newcastle ready themselves for capital raid

When Andy Carroll left Newcastle in January, many criticised the club for failing to find a replacement and believed the club would struggle to stay in the Premiership.

That said, Alan Pardew managed to do enough to keep the team in the top tier, and with the majority of Carroll’s £35M unspent, the patience of Magpies fans may be about to be paid off.

Having been promised transfer funds this season, Pardew has been fairly shrewd in the transfer market, picking up both Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba on free transfers, and only splashing the cash on Yohan Cabaye, leaving him with quite an excess of cash at his disposal.

CaughtOffside has reported that Pardew has set his sights on Premiership duo Peter Crouch and Daniel Sturridge, hoping that between them they can fill the hole that Carroll’s departure left. Whilst Sturridge may only be available on a loan deal, it seems as if Harry Redknapp would be willing to sell Peter Crouch as he attempts to remodel Tottenham’s attacking options, although more recent reports suggest it is Roman Pavlyuchenko and not Crouch on Pardew’s radar.

Pardew will also be hoping that these acquisitions will create a positive atmosphere around the club, one that has been lacking of late with the controversies surrounding Joey Barton, as well as the criticisms of the club’s transfer policy from Jose Enrique.

Should Mike Ashley allow Pardew the funds to move for either of these players, then Pardew will hope that they can forge a strong goalscoring partnership will fellow new arrival Ba, as Newcastle look to replace the goalscoring potential of both Carroll and Kevin Nolan.

Furthermore, even with the financial backing required to bring in both players, it is far from a guarantee they will choose to ply their trade in the North-East this season. Both Fulham and Stoke are also keen on Crouch, and Owen Coyle is hoping to convince Sturridge to return on loan to the Reebok Stadium, while Chelsea might still prefer to keep their talented young striker.

  • Nick Dryden says:

ANYONE BUT CROUCH. Too old, injury prone and on huge wages. Plus it would mean having to play ”HOOFBALL” for 90 mins every match which is somemthing I thought NUFC were trying to move away from with faster, skilful players coming in now.

sturridge and pavluchenko would be marvelous signings but can’t see fatash going for for that class of player.also from what I have seen of pre-season games sturridge has played really well and would probably start in chelsea’s team on saturday.
