A transfer made in HELL for Newcastle and player

The Sun is reporting today that if Newcastle fail in their bid for Mevlut Erding then their attention will turn towards capturing Tottenham forward , for a reported £9million transfer fee.

At 28 years old and a hefty price tag on his head, this transfer would be the polar opposite of what the club looks for in potential transfer targets. Assuming Newcastle were to give him a four year contract at the age of 32 any re-sale value would be minimal.

However, the player possesses proven Premier League experience and a record to match. He is, perhaps, England’s most natural striker and would seem to be a good foil for Demba Ba. Whilst he comes with proven credentials he only managed to score 4 goals in the Premiership last season, although he was not a frequent starter.

It seems highly doubtful that Newcastle would shell out anywhere near £9million for a player of his age (29 in October) and who scored so few goals last season. If the club could secure the player for a fee nearer £6million then the transfer would be much more realistic, but according to reports Defoe isn’t interested in a move to the north east.

I am also delighted that the club seems to have been put off a potential move for , at 30 years old a £9million pound fee looks extortionate for a player who has only twice scored more than 10 Premiership goals in a league season.

If Newcastle do not secure Erding, I think the best alternative would be to try and secure a swap deal for . At 23 years old Newcastle would be able to secure a future return on any investment and it would also allow us to unload Enrique for a reasonable fee. Whilst there are question marks over the player’s attitude if feel he is a better player than Crouch and is younger than Defoe, who would command a high fee with no re-sale value.

your article is funny, all you are saying is that £9 mill is a lot for a 29 year old english striker (defoe) who when on form is unstopable and then you moan about crouch, at this age you dont worry about resale value but worry about wining things and crouch and defoe are very effective in their own ways, anyhow id rather keep em at spurs, so what if defoe didnt score many last season, its just one season. wait and see how he will start scoring again

defoe is big time overrated, it’s a good job he said ain’t coming. i’d be happy with bentner tho, i think he’s quality and would be a ideal replacement for carroll.

let me spell something out to all ignorant fans last year all strikers suffered from energised defences and Kolo Toure was just one who got caught Defoe and Crouch will score but for Spurs.
